YOUNG MINDS MATTER
Mental Health Support Teams: supporting children in schools
We are delighted that our school has been given the opportunity to take part in a new, national programme called Young Minds Matter. The programme provides mental health support for children and young people, who may be experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of mental health problems, which tend to be outside the scope of traditional NHS services.
A Mental Health Support Team (MHST), led by a Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner, will visit school to help identify children in need to provide support at the earliest opportunity.
The MHST support children with life’s ups and downs, such as anxiety, friendship difficulties, exam stress and challenging behaviour. They also advise parents and teachers how to help children who are experiencing difficulties.
Support may involve group work and/or individual, one-to-one sessions, either at school or elsewhere. Where appropriate, the MHST will link up with specialist mental health services. More information on the programme can be found here:
https://www.ghll.org.uk/mental-health/trailblazer-programme/
Information will be shared with the MHST with parental consent, unless we believe a child, young person or someone else is at serious risk of harm. Please read the Young Minds Matters Parent Information Letter for more information.
If you would like more information or to make a request for support, please contact our Young Minds Matter Lead:
